Unifly has developed a drone tracking and e-Identification product: the Unifly BLIP. This stands for Broadcast Location & Identification Platform. BLIP is tailored to the specific needs of UTM service providers, local authorities and drone operators. 

BLIP: e-Identification and tracking in one device

To guarantee safe drone traffic, it is vital to know the exact position of drones. Tracking is a key functionality when it comes to drone use. Especially in beyond visual line of sight drone operations. By using BLIP you can pinpoint the exact location of your drone. It combines all functions you could possibly need including:

  • High precision support for all major global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) including GPS, Galileo, Glonass and Beidou
  • Multiband cellular communication (LTE Category 1) with integrated SIM chip (eUICC)
  • Secure drone & pilote e-Identification via BLE
  • Integrated battery supporting Qi-wireless charging
  • Weatherproof IP 67 enclosure 
  • 2x RGB LEDs (power + network) for state indication 
  • Operating temperature range from -20° to +70° Celsius

Highly independent

BLIP operates in a highly independent fashion: it has its own power source and sensors for position, altitude, temperature, pressure, speed and direction. Simply attach it to a drone and it is ready for use. BLIP powers up automatically as soon as vertical movement is detected. 

Much more than position reporting

BLIP combines tracking capabilities with e-Identification. From the moment the device senses vertical movement, it starts sending the tracking data over the LTE wireless broadband network to the UTM backbone.

Additionally, BLIP uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to broadcast the drone's e-Identification, 3D location and take-off position in compliance with the European legal requirements for drone flights.

These data can be accessed in real-time by relevant authorities through secured applications. This allows for example a police patrol to read out all details of drones flying within a distance of up to 200 metres of the patrol's position.
