Unifly Strengthens U-Space and ATM Integration through ENSURE Project

Antwerp, Belgium – April 8, 2025 – Unifly, a global leader in UAS Traffic Management (UTM) solutions, part of Terra Drone Corporation, is proud to announce its active involvement in the ENSURE project (ATM – U-space Interface and Dynamic Airspace Reconfiguration Service), funded by SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking under the Horizon Europe research and innovation program.

ENSURE is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at refining and defining a standardised interface between Air Traffic Management (ATM) and U-space, by developing the complete services mentioned in the U-Space regulations and their respective Guidance Material (GM) and Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC). This integration is essential for ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable drone operations alongside manned aviation. By advancing the development of dynamic airspace reconfiguration services, ENSURE is setting the foundation for a future where drones and conventional air traffic seamlessly coexist.

Project Overview

ENSURE is a large-scale initiative, led by INDRA, a Spanish aviation technology solutions provider, and includes major European aviation industry players such as Airbus, EUROCONTROL, ENAV, and Unifly. Key efforts in the project include:

  • Standardising data exchange and communication protocols between U-Space and ATM systems.
  • Enhancing situational awareness for air traffic controllers and U-Space service providers.
  • Implementing and validating DAR methods, a real-time airspace management.
  • Addressing regulatory and safety requirements for the integration of drone operations within controlled airspace.

Unifly, with its extensive expertise in UAS Traffic Management (UTM) solutions, is providing the following contributions:

  • Development and testing of U-Space services that enable real-time coordination between drones and traditional air traffic management.
  • Technical support in the standardisation of the U-Space and ATM interface, ensuring compliance with evolving European regulations.
  • Participation in validation exercises and simulations to evaluate DAR systems.
  • Support for the deployment of digital airspace management tools to improve the safety and efficiency of drone operations.

Future Prospects

As part of its commitment to transparency and industry collaboration, ENSURE will host an Open Day on the 28th of May 2025 at Tern Systems’ premises in Iceland. This event will showcase the latest advancements in ATM-U-space integration and provide a platform for stakeholders to engage with project experts.

Ensure will aslo be presenting its achievements at the SESAR walking tour (tour nr.8) during the Airspace World exiibiton in Lisbon, Portugal.

Unifly will actively participate in both the walking tour and the Open Day, presenting its contributions to U-space digitalisation and automation. Attendees will gain insights into how Unifly’s innovative UTM solutions are shaping the future of drone operations, enabling a safer and more interconnected European airspace.
